This years conference theme is Disaster Recovery. Recovering from a disaster is a task that most jurisdictions would never want to participate in. Unlike response, where emergency managers and responders regularly have after-action reviews and establish improvement measures; Recovery is usually a one-shot thing.
The Recovery process is truly a community endeavor. Through pre-disaster planning, a community can establish beneficial goals and guidelines to aid local government in finding fiscally responsible methods to recover from the disaster. Even policies that encourage residents to sort the debris on their property after a tornado can save the city thousands of dollars in debris management.
The presentations and breakout sessions will offer insight on the pitfalls of ineffective recovery planning and a clearer picture on how employees, responders, citizens and volunteers can work together to not only recover from the disaster but set achievable goals to improve their community following the disaster.
